Jojanneke’s transition from law firm to business in 2009 changed her view on work. Instead of fighting in the courtroom, she was able to start building for her clients as a corporate lawyer. It proved to be a successful turnaround for the senior legal counsel who, in her free time, can regularly be found on her yoga mat.
“I enjoy advising on commercial contracts in an (inter)national context. Keeping the client’s interests in sharp focus, yet pragmatic and solution-oriented where possible. I have expertise in intellectual property law, which is almost always a component of a commercial contract, and have seen a wide range of diverse legal topics pass by. Maintaining client relationships, sparring with business partners and negotiating with the contracting party to achieve a mutually supported end result give me great satisfaction. Just like working as a team with my Halsten colleagues, where we strive for the best solution for the client.
What is important to me is also serving a social interest, as was the case with one of my assignments in which I provided legal support for the sale of a new bioplastic from an early stage. This product is now in an upscaling phase, and the first commercial plant is currently being built. This assignment aligns with my motivation to help build a more sustainable future from a legal perspective.
I think the great thing about advising on contract law is that it helps organizations think things through properly and then bring them to fruition. Because of the structural relationship you build with clients at Halsten, you are also involved in the implementation phase of contracts and you see the results of your work in practice.
The collaboration with colleagues and the atmosphere between colleagues at Halsten is unique. With an eye for personal contact, together we are able to rise above the individuality. In my spare time I also work as a yoga instructor and can regularly be found in the crossfit box. Besides spending time with my wonderful family, the combination of work and conscious exercise keeps me balanced.”
